Buakonikai Primary School is on Rabi Island, with 110 students and 5 teachers.

We installed its 5.8 kW solar system, with 22.8 kWh of battery storage, in 2024. Buakonikai was the first school to join The Solar Fund (Fiji), which monitors the system and pays for its servicing and repairs, so it keeps working long after the installers have gone.

The project received anchor funding from the Australian Government's Business Partnerships Platform, which is building renewable energy capacity in the Pacific. The Buakonikai community also thanks the many Rotary supporters of the project: the Rotary Clubs of Berry, Narooma, Orange, Gerringong Sunrise, Jerra, Bathurst, Pambula, Hall, Orange North, Forbes, Moruya, Lake Cargelligo, Crookwell, Wagga Wagga Kooringal, Canberra, Sydney Cove, Corrimal, Ku-ring-gai and Keilor East, and Rotarian Ken Leach.
