Kioa Island School, in Salia Village on Kioa Island, was our second project, installed in 2010. The 1.4 kW system was small, but it powered the school for the next 15 years, with two battery replacements and one inverter replacement along the way. Over that time the school saved many thousands of dollars, which it carefully invested in electronic learning aids and its first library.
In 2026 a major internationally funded project installed a large solar system that electrified the village's 104 homes, its community buildings and the school. After great service, our small system was retired.
The project was funded by many sponsors, above all through a fundraising dinner supported by journalist and former Wallaby Peter FitzSimons and fellow Wallabies Adam Freier and Clyde Rathbone.
