Malolo District School is in Solevu on Malolo Island, in the Mamanuca Group. It has 190 students and 9 teachers.
Before solar, the school had three small two-panel solar systems, each supplying 12-volt lights to a classroom and charging for small devices, but their batteries had failed long before. Even working well, they were nowhere near enough for a school. A small generator ran the photocopier and an office computer for limited periods. It was so loud that it sat on a long lead away from the office.
The existing wiring was old, dangerous and beyond repair, so when we installed the 6.5 kW system in 2023 we rewired all the school buildings and teachers' homes.
A donor also gave the school a new LED data projector and 20 kg of library books on sustainability.
