Viwa District School is in Naibalebale Village on Viwa Island, in the Yasawa Islands, with 40 students and 5 teachers. Some of its students board at the school in two hostels.

In 2026 we installed an 8 kW solar array with 19.8 kWh of battery storage, bringing 24-hour power to the classrooms, the teachers' homes and the hostels. Starlink internet, laptops and smart TVs came with it, opening up online learning for students and teachers. A freezer for the hostels means food for the boarders can be stored safely.

The school was funded through the Australian Government's REnew Pacific program. The system is part of The Solar Fund (Fiji), which monitors it and pays for its servicing and repairs, so it keeps working long after the installers have gone.
