Yanuca Island School is on Yanuca Island, near the larger Beqa Island. Its 5 teachers teach 55 students from kindergarten to Year 8.
Before solar, the school had a small two-panel solar system that served only the office. It worked well on sunny days and lasted a short while into the evening, as its batteries neared the end of their life, and a small portable generator filled the gaps. Most of the school had no wiring at all, and the rest was old and unsafe, so we rewired every building for the new 5 kW system in 2023. The small solar system was moved to the village hall.
A donor also gave the school a new LED data projector and 20 kg of library books on sustainability.
